The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Culvert No. 533 is located 5 miles east of Rosalia, KS on HWY 54.
The culvert repair consists of extending the existing 8 Ft x 8 Ft culvert an additional 10 Ft on both ends. The extension also requires new wing walls, head wall and apron with a toe wall. Along with the culvert repair, is seeding and erosion control.
Some unique challenges presented during the project included very hard rock that had to be excavated, a continuous spring that had water flow to be diverted through a pump and pipes through the culvert for the entire duration of the project. The spring water would also flow out of the ground in the working areas.
