After the Greensburg tornado on May 4, 2007, the city of Greensburg made a decision to rebuild the town with a green initiative. This LEED-certified complex includes 3 pre-engineered Liberty Building Systems metal buildings: a 6,000 S.F. transportation building, a 4,428 S.F. recycling center, and a 4,800 S.F. noxious weed building. The transportation building includes a vehicle maintenance shop and equipment storage. It also houses the administrative offices. The recycling center includes space for basic recycling services as well as a household hazardous waste and e-waste depository. The noxious weed building includes space for both chemical and equipment storage.
