McConnell AFB – Theater Remodel

This project includes a full repair and remodel of the base theater. The base theater consists of an outer lobby, inner lobby, concession area and alcove, a building previously utilized as a theater and updated to provide a functional meeting space with a modern appearance.

Snodgrass & Sons performed the demolition of the concessions stand and brought in an Abatement team for the flooring demo. We installed new large format ceramic floor tile in the main areas and mosaic tile in the restrooms. Removed the existing wallpaper and skimmed approximately 2,800 SF of wall to a level 5 finish, and installed approx. 1,200 SF of new ceiling tile and grid. The walls have all new paint including the main areas and restrooms. The restrooms feature all new partitions and urinal screens, new plumbing and fixtures installed, new solid-surface countertops and accessories (grab bars and dispensers).

A unique challenge to this project was the slope of the existing flooring and setting the new flooring tile, while working with two existing layers of tile and an existing concrete floor gap. To remedy, we floated the existing floor to make it level and added a transition between the slabs. The asbestos abatement, remediation and testing was a challenge at the forefront of the project, and was completed in time for the entirety of the work to be performed within contract.

The users were pleased with the update and becoming a new functional meeting space that matched McConnell AFB standards. The overall project was completed ahead of schedule.
