The Phase I remodel at WSU Henrion Hall consisted of approximately 8,000 sq. ft. of this historic 1920’s structure. The primary amount of work was spent on the 1st floor of the Art Department. Phase I consisted of remodeling and re-aligning twelve rooms, most of which are clay modeling and throwing rooms that lead to the glaze lab and kiln rooms.
Over half of the project dollars were spent on updating the HVAC equipment to provide new tempered air into the building, installing new ductwork, and relocating the fire sprinkler heads throughout 12 rooms. 12 new hollow metal doors, frames, and locksets were installed and reworked to tie into the existing building system.
Structural work included new framing on 2 floors to carry the new air-handling mechanical equipment with 30 tons of new air conditioning on the 2nd floor. Toward the end of the project, approximately 6,000 sq. ft. of concrete floors were polished and sealed with an epoxy resin.
Inside the building, a new access ramp was installed between 2 main areas of the floor to allow for ease of moving in and out of the building. New service wiring and devices to all 12 rooms, new LED light fixtures, and service outlets were installed for the new art equipment, clay mixing equipment, dust collection system, and the new condensing unit.
