The multi-phase vision of which started with the Trinity High School building began as a plowed field in a not yet developed area of northwest Wichita. A lone windmill, which still exists today, stood as a sentry over the area. At the time, there were a few homes and only two buildings in the surrounding area. Snodgrass & Sons coordinated all the sub-contractors working as general contractor on this project.
Trinity was designed and built economically. The original plans included a slab on grade one-story metal building with two colors of burnished block as the exterior finish. Snodgrass & Sons placed all of the footings and concrete flat work. The structural steel and roof panels were done by Sharp Construction, LLC.
The original building features a main entrance to the east, with parking on the northwest and a loop drive which surrounded the building. Inside the main entrance there is commons room (seats appx. 80) and commons area, which functions as a cafeteria, assembly, and all purpose room. The full featured commercial kitchen is adjacent to the commons room where lunches are prepared. A serving line area is between the kitchen and the commons room.
A full size high school gymnasium wing, 125’ x 125’, is further to the west. This area includes restrooms, and also locker rooms, athletic offices, storage, maintenance, and janitorial rooms. Above the locker rooms, is a mezzanine with weightlifting; the locker rooms are of block wall construction with a 4” fiberglass reinforced concrete cap placed on precast hollow-core concrete to support all the weightlifting equipment.
The gymnasium came with its own unique challenge. The concrete floor needed to be within 1/8″ so when they added the wood floor on top, they didn’t need to shim the height of the floor. Special self-leveling concrete was utilized. The wood gym floor was laid out to accommodate several sports, basketball, volleyball, and more. Basketball can be played as one regulation court or two smaller courts.
To the north of the commons room is the education wing with administrative offices and 16 classrooms. There is another men and women restroom in this area. An electric pottery kiln was installed in the art room. Two science rooms featured lab style tables with electricity, natural gas, and water hook ups as needed. The music room contained built in bleachers.
Westar Energy, Inc. brought in a new transformer and primary power to the building. Snodgrass & Sons trenched and placed the conduit for the primary and secondary underground lines, and the domestic water. They also trenched and placed all the storm water concrete pipe, and the pressure sanitary sewer. Because the area was so new to the City of Wichita, sanitary sewer was close to a half mile away. Messiah Baptist Church, across the 21st Street, tied into this pressure sewer, also.
Mechanical Systems, Inc. performed the mechanical and plumbing, Linder & Associates, Inc. installed electric, and Drywall Systems, Inc. for the sheetrock installation. Drywall Systems, Inc. also placed the Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) on the exterior where called for.
Snodgrass & Sons helped with a soccer field and the KSHSAA certified baseball diamond. A track and football field was placed east of the school.
A pond was enlarged to the east to include a mascot atop a concrete pedestal in the middle of the pond. The pond work had to be coordinated with the weather. Any rain would stop the pond progression. The pond was completed but the pedestal still needed to be put in place. The concrete pedestal was added on a Friday, and the rain came in Saturday which completely filled up the pond.
What started as undeveloped farmland ended up as a beautiful high school complex. Trinity High School had a full enrollment its first semester in this building. And the windmill that stood sentry over the farmland is still watching over this complex today.
Phase II of Trinity High School is an addition on the south and to the west of the original building with additional parking,
The addition includes a second gymnasium, auditorium, classrooms, restrooms, music wing, and a library. A second gym was needed to accommodate Trinity’s’ athletic program. Per the specs, the court is finished for one full basketball court, two secondary courts, one full direction volleyball courts, and two secondary volleyball courts.
Though Trinity had a fine arts and theater program, the school still needed an auditorium. The auditorium now seats approximately 350 people, has a full theatrical stage, and orchestra pit. The auditorium building is high enough so that a full height stage curtain is possible. The air handling system is designed to be quiet and not distract from the productions.
The music wing has two large music classrooms. The music wing is separated enough from the school and is built with block so as to be quiet.
The library is a nice accent to the building with a beautiful glass wall facing east. The view to the east, of the pond and football stadium, along the large floor to ceiling bay window helps set the tone and the intellectual pursuits of the spacious library.
The building consists of four building materials with metal building, block, tilt-up and frame. The auditorium is a thirty-eight-foot-tall pre-cast poured on site tilt-up building. The backstage room, music wing, and restrooms are a block construction building. The main corridor, classroom, and library rooms are constructed of structural steel metal building and frame.
Snodgrass & Sons trenched the storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and fire sprinklers. Placed the storm sewer pipe. Poured all the concrete footings flat work, concrete parking, sidewalks, and tilt-ups. Under the stage tunnels for air ductwork were poured from concrete. The gym floor was poured by a sub-contractor McDonald Concrete, Inc. Griffith Steel Erection, Inc. set the tilt-ups and the associated structural steel. Snodgrass & Sons did the rest of the structural steel and roofing.
Mechanical Systems, Inc. performed the mechanical and plumbing, Linder & Associates, Inc. installed electric, and Danny Satterfield Drywall Corporation did the sheetrock installation. Fire Protection Services, Inc. installed fire sprinklers for the addition.
This was a much needed well thought out addition to the existing high school facility. The school addition was full the first semester it was opened. The 2nd gymnasium so helped in their athletic program. Having a much bigger music wing tied closely with a wonderful 350 seat auditorium enhanced the music program. A well balanced library is needed in any school. And additional classroom space in a school that has full attendance is always needed. This addition accomplished the goals of Trinity High School.

Trinity Academy K-8 (located ¼ mile south of the high school) opened in January of 2017. The original building was built on an unimproved parcel of land. The building needed new electrical service, fire sprinkler service, sanitary sewer, storm water sewer, fiber optics, fire alarm, entry approaches, parking, driveways, and parking lighting.
The school consists of two wings with 13 total classrooms. The building is a slab on grade metal building. The exterior walls are of a 4” burnished block with two different colors. This building includes a FEMA room, also.
Snodgrass & Sons trenched and poured the concrete footing and installed the metal building and roofing materials. The building structural steel, wall panels and roof sheets were supplied by MBCI. Builders Plus placed the interior building slab. Cornejo & Sons Corp. did the parking curbs and paving. Snodgrass & Sons poured the sidewalks.
The north wing of phase one has a reception area, eight classrooms, four offices (including a nurse’s office, with its own restroom) work room, conference, and break room. Four of the classrooms have a restroom. A space for a future kitchen is also included. This building and the high school have been connected by a fiber optic line, to enhance communication. Provision has been made for future expansion with gas, water, sewer, fire sprinkler, and comm all sized and placed for the addition.
In the center of the two wings is the main entrance and vestibule, and a large cafeteria/commons room, with a 13’ ceiling. The east and south walls of the commons room are glass to view the surrounding scenery. Just outside to the south of the commons room is a large brick patio.
The alternate wing features five classrooms, including an art room, science room, library, music room, the main men and women restroom, storage, and janitorial room. The music room is a FEMA certified storm shelter. The FEMA Music room is complete with a Firestone TPO roofing system. Building expansion to the south was planned for if needed.
The building has fire sprinklers installed. Heartland Painting, Inc. performed the painting on both phases of the grade school. Mechanical Systems, Inc. performed the mechanical and plumbing, Drywall Systems, Inc. installed the sheetrock, and EFIS, and Linder & Associates, Inc installed the electric.
The exterior has a large parking lot with sidewalks and landscaping added. This building and school was full the first semester it was opened and further expansion was planned from the beginning.
Trinity Academy K-8 Phase II expansion is the newest addition to the K-8 school building. The expansion includes six rooms total, with five classrooms and a set of restroom facilities.
On the exterior, Snodgrass & Sons added a 33 space asphalt parking lot with two handicap stalls, and two added light poles. The sitework features sidewalks, building pad and drainage control. The concrete foundation was poured for the pre-engineered building, by Roberts Concrete, LLC. Roberts also placed the interior floor slab. The pre-engineered building materials were supplied by MBCI. The building was structural steel erection and framing. The exterior consists of a combination of masonry with burnished block veneer and reversed rolled panel to match existing panels. Standing seam metal roof and 10 windows to match existing windows with double pane tinted glazing.
The interior and exterior drywall is complete, along with acoustical ceilings, and millwork including cabinets, cubbies, wardrobe closets and laminate tops. Mechanical Systems, Inc. performed the plumbing and HVAC equipment with six horizontal furnace systems by Rheem with 95% efficiency and six Rheem AC condensing units. Linder & Associates, Inc. completed the wiring, lighting, fire alarm and paging/intercom systems. Heartland Painting, Inc. painted the building, Star Flooring & Decorating provided and installed the carpet and tile.
The coiling door to the kitchen was later installed in 2020.
The added space and parking have greatly enhanced the educational experience for Trinity Academy, K-8.

The Trinity Business Center building is the new commercial building development in the large quarter section tract near 21st St. N. & 127th St. E., on the north end of the track and football stadium. It is comprised of approximately 20,000 total Sq. Ft., with 10,000 Sq. Ft. above ground finished area and 10,000 Sq. Ft. below ground.
The Main floor of the Trinity Business Center has its first tenant as Omnicut Motivational Fitness. The lower level opens to the school’s stadium and track and has plans to eventually house Trinity’s locker rooms.
The project is unique in that it is a metal building placed on a basement and there are 42 columns, which is a large number of columns to detail the roof. From the ground up, Snodgrass & Sons constructed the 12 Ft. basement walls, sidewalls and driveway. Roberts Concrete, LLC. assisted with the flatwork on both floors.
The first floor of the concrete beams and tying all of the steel together presented a challenge, as well as the roof steel, and all anchor bolts needed to be just right. Air Capitol Steel Erection, LLC. set all of the structural steel and roof to make it water tight. Hopper’s Glass, Inc. furnished all of the glass and A&H Electric, Inc. installed the electrical components. The interior finishes of the building includes: an open gym, office, classrooms, two bathrooms, and storage. To complete the interior, the building has fire sprinklers installed in the basement. MBCI did the mechanical and plumbing. Dry Wall Systems, Inc. were the sub-contractors for the dry wall and EFIS. Heartland Painting, Inc. completed the painting.
The Trinity concession stand situated at the south end of the football stadium finalized construction plans in August of 2021 and includes a 4,800+ Sq. Ft. building space with two sections.
The first section features a main concession area, a west storage room and equipment room. Between the two sections is a breezeway with covered entry. The second section is comprised of a set of restrooms and an east storage room. The exterior has a large covered patio and curved retaining wall.

TRINITY K-8 CHILDREN FLOOR SIGNING
Prior to installing the wood floor in the Trinity K-8 Gym addition, the faculty wanted the students and parents to have the opportunity to sign the concrete. Snodgrass & Sons paused the construction for site safety and the group proceeded.
The students and their parents included their signatures, bible verses, prayers and more. A wonderful opportunity for inclusion as a part of the project.
